Richard Merchán Artist Reception at Musebox Arts – 03/02/2022

Venezuelan painter and sculptor Richard Merchán is no stranger to Florida where he grew up as a teenager in the early seventies. As a representational artist, the essence of his work is rooted in “storytelling” with narratives designed for the viewer to form their opinion of what has taken place. Reminiscent of the 19th century French painters, Merchán’s use of vibrant colors delivered in a post-impressionistic voice has been consistent for the past thirty years. His figures are gestural, his landscapes broader. The ocean, sailboats, bathers displayed in aqua marine environments are evident in many of his works. Merchán’s equine works reflect freedom, polo ponies and riders that depict the spirit of the sport along with of its antorage of a life style. Many residents in Naples are collectors his work. Solo exhibitions include Laguna Beach California, Los Angeles, Burlingame California, Minneapolis, New York City and South Hamptons. His work has been the subject of magazine articles. “I can’t ever recall being at a loss for ideas or inspiration,” ~Merchán.
